Construction and Agriculture

Construction and AgricultureVolunteers with a green thumb, or those who just want to plunge their hands into deep, rich, African soil, will be interested in a construction and farming placement. This village based placement teaches and promotes modern methods of farming in rural Ugandan communities. Volunteers work along side Ugandans digging and maintaining demonstration gardens, handing out seedlings to community members to promote income generation, soil preparation, planting, weeding, harvesting, etc. Actual activities depend on the season. Tools and training are given on site.
Currently, there are opportunities for volunteers to work with a local construction project on the same grounds. This could involve clearing the property, making bricks, leveling land, dig foundations, landscaping and more as the project progresses. This will take place for the next year (approximately, beginning summer 2013). When construction is not happening, you will be assisting with the agriculture activities.
All farming and conservation project may include other community work, such as working in local schools, youth skills training, and water and sanitation education. Volunteers must be flexible in order to fill their days.
